Persistent Biocontrol

At Persistent BioControl, we produce insect attacking nematodes that kill corn rootworm before they can damage your corn. Our nematodes are microscopic worms that live in the soil. Just one application will protect your failing Bt-RW traited corn for multiple growing seasons.

Its simple – maximizing yield starts with a healthy crop root-system that makes the most of expensive inputs. Persistent BioControl nematodes eliminate soil insect pests like Corn Rootworm and Wireworm, before they cost you yield. Our biocontrol nematodes have retained their natural ability to persist across growing seasons, allowing a single application of our product to protect your field for multiple years.  This innovation has reduced the cost for farmers and finally made biocontrol nematodes an economically viable option for soil insect control.

Our Experience:

We applied Persistent Biocontrol nematodes on half of our irrigated acres in 2022. During the 2021 season, we had high Corn Rootworm pressure. In the 2021 season, we had to spray most of our circles twice to gain control on the Corn Rootworm beetles and we were making plans to use insectide at planting for the 2022 season. We learned of the Persistent Biocontrol nematodes in January of 2022, and we made the decision to utilize them over insectide for the coming season. The performance of the nematodes in 2022 extremely impressed us as we were unable to find much for root feeding from the Corn Rootworm larvae. Pressure was light enough during the season that we did’t even have to spray for beetle control.

After being impressed by the nematodes in 2022, we decided to apply the nematodes to the rest of our irrigated acres in 2023. We experienced increased Corn Rootworm control in 2023, on the ground that was treated in 2022, which was expected. It was a challenge to find any root tracing from the larvae, and we very rarely saw any goosenecked corn plants during harvest. With the extremely diminished larvae, we avoided spraying for Corn Rootworm beetles during the growing season for the second year. Overall, we have been thoroughly impressed by the permformance of the Persistent Biocontrol nematodes.
